 | Satish Chopra also has a station that was a Texaco until just recently at 1610 W. Sixth Street, Corona, California. He converted this location to a foodmart and quick service restaurant the same as the Lincoln Avenue Shell station. It likely has the same problem as the Lincoln Shell station. In selling this station to Satish Chopra, Shell decided to leave all the equipment in place so the problem with the other 13,000 Texaco stations won't be discovered.Generally, Shell would pull the tanks and equipment in order to not incur liability. In this case, Shell needs to hide the liability. Additionally, there was a massive underground gasoline leak at this location creating a huge plume of gasoline. Texaco had to put in abatement equipment that will run at this location for decades to try and recapture as much as the pollution as possible. Waiting until there is damage to environment is not the best strategy in detecting and remediating environmental problems. Yet, that is exactly what Michael Lauffer, Chief Attorney for the California State Water Resources Control Board, has been arguing for. "Just leave it alone until it leaks, we'll catch it." Why would anyone in their right mind want to do that 957 feet from a clean water aquifer? It is maddening how little sense that makes. Contact Info: Satish Chorpra, Hite Lite, Inc., 1610 W.
